OPEN SPARRING
- Four matches may occur simultaneously in the marked quadrants.
- First to 5 points wins. All exchanges are awarded points – after blow or doubles count as a point for each.
- Participants are expected to self-call hits.
- Each match must have one agreed upon volunteer non-combatant referee to maintain safety, keep tally of points and offer an impartial tie-breaking vote.
- After a match, please leave the quadrant in a timely manner so the next set of fighters may rotate in.
- There will be one rotating Steel Ring Fechtival staff member floating between quadrants at all times.
- Matches will occur in the center ring.
- Steel Ring Fechtival staff will provide 3 rotating staff members – 2 judges, 1 table – to ensure safety, offer an impartial tie-breaking vote, and keep tally of number of matches as MOTH.
- Participants are expected to self-call hits.
- Each match is to one point. The standing MOTH remains if they score the point. If the challenger scores the point, they become the new MOTH and the previous MOTH returns to the challenger rotation.
- Standing MOTH has the advantage in the event of an after blow or double.
- Winner with the most rounds as MOTH and the runner up will both receive a prize.
